Description: This was a collaboration with digital artist Jamie Sheridan, created for the breaking ground ceremonies for the Duderstadt Center. Sheridan had a computer program that projected colorful geometric patterns from a ceiling projector onto a small rug-sized rectangular area of sand (approximately 10’ x 14’) below. Sheridan called his projectoins on sand the “magic carpet” if I recall correctly. I improvised in the sand as a soloist in a nude unitard, and the projections of course fell on me as well as the sand. At the time, the language of the internet was new to me, and I played with that vocabulary, just as I did later in Save Changes Before Quitting. I riffed with movement inspired by words such as: cyberspace, byte, log on, log off, boot up and more.
